2008 Brightside Nelson Rosé

Winemaking notes

This is a Rosé made entirely from Pinot Noir grapes, all grown on the alluvial Waimea gravels. It was 100% hand harvested to ensure high quality clean fruit only.

The juice was obtained using the traditional saignée technique, where pink juice is drained from various red ferments (all Pinot Noir) after 24-48 hours of cold soak. The combined juice was then clarified and racked before cool fermentation in a stainless steel tank.

Following fermentation the wine was left on lees for 3 months to enhance mid-palate texture, then racked and fined prior to finishing and bottling in August 2008.

Tasting notes

Pretty rose pink colour. This rosé shouts strawberries, like tasty strawberry conserve on buttered toast, both on the nose and palate. Front palate is juicy and soft with a nice balance of fruity acidity and a dash of vanilla. Fresh and appealing, with moderate weight and length and a warm mouth filling finish, this would be well matched with a broad variety of summer dishes.
