2007 Kaimira Estate Brightwater Pinot Gris

Winemaking notes

The fruit for this wine was sourced from the two home vineyards in Brightwater (63% River Terrace and 37% Livingston Road). The long, dry autumn of 2007 allowed the fruit to reach very good ripeness levels while remaining clean and disease free. It is 100% hand-picked Pinot gris, with an average harvest Brix of 25.

The grapes were crushed and destemmed with a short period of skin contact. Juice oxidation was carefully avoided and the clear juice cool fermented in stainless steel to retain primary fruit character.

The wine was aged on light lees for five months following fermentation, to enhance texture and weight. There was no malolactic fermentation or oak influence.

Tasting notes

Nutty mealy lees characters enhance poached pears on the nose, with a zesty orange lift. The palate displays similar flavours with juicy pears on the front palate, then the citrus kicks in, finishing with toasted almonds and a hint of allspice. This is a dry style Pinot Gris with a creamy texture that would be a great match with white meats or Asian influenced cuisine.
