2007 Brightside Nelson Riesling
WINE DETAILS
The fruit for this wine was sourced from 3 vineyards on the Waimea plains (59% Golden Hills, 21% River Terrace, 20% Livingston Rd). It is 100% hand-picked Riesling, with an average harvest Brix of 21.8°.
The grapes were pressed, juice oxidation carefully avoided and the clarified juice cool fermented in stainless steel to retain primary fruit character. The fermentations were stopped to retain a level of residual sugar to balance the natural acidity.
After ferment the wine was racked off gross lees and blended, followed by a light isinglass fining. It was sterile filtered and bottled in September 2007.
TASTING NOTES
Delicate florals on the nose, honeysuckle and mandarin. The palate is lush and juicy with plenty of ripe citrus in the tangelo and mandarin spectrum. It has a tight mineral acidity balancing the dash of sweetness and lovely smooth texture. Finishes with lime/orange zest and a touch of spice. Recently bottled this is a very young Riesling which given time should mellow and develop honeyed complexity.
