2006 Kaimira Estate Nelson RoséWINE DETAILSThis is a Rosé made entirely from Pinot Noir grapes, primarily sourced from vineyards on the Moutere clay soils (84%), the remainder coming from the Waimea gravels. It was 100% hand harvested to ensure high quality clean fruit only. For a 65% portion, the fruit was destemmed and crushed, soaked on skins for 16 hours then pressed to give pink juice. The remaining 35% was juice drained from various red ferments (saignée) after 24-48 hours of cold soak. The combined juice was clarified and racked before cool fermentation in a stainless steel tank. Following fermentation the wine was left on lees for a couple of months to enhance mid-palate texture, then racked and fined prior to finishing and bottling in early September.
TASTING NOTESPretty watermelon pink colour, nose shows classic Pinot rosé characters of strawberries and cream with a hint of coffee beans and cinnamon spice. The palate has a lovely oily texture, delicate berry flavours finishing dry with a touch of citrussy acid keeping it lively and fresh.
