2006 Kaimira Estate Nelson Chardonnay
WINE DETAILS
The fruit for this wine was sourced entirely from the estate vineyards in Brightwater, Nelson with 30% from the original home block and 70% from the more recently acquired Livingston Road vineyard. It was 100% hand picked with an average harvest Brix of 23.2°.
Crushing and destemming before gentle pressing yielded clean juice which was fermented in stainless steel with European oak adjuncts. It was then aged sur lie in tank for around 10 months prior to final filtration and bottling under screwcap in February 2007. A light isinglass fining was used to polish the wine and aid clarification.
TASTING NOTES
A lightly-oaked Chardonnay style, this example shows good concentration with lots of citrus and stonefruit characters. Lees ageing has given the wine a creamy texture and the subtle oak seasoning greatly enhances the fruit with some smokey, spicey characters. Well balanced with vibrant citrus acidity.
