2006 Kaimira Estate Brightwater RieslingWine DetailsThe fruit for this wine was sourced from the two home vineyards in Brightwater, Nelson (67% Livingston Road and 33% River Terrace). It is 100% hand-picked Riesling, with an average harvest Brix of 20.5°. The grapes were pressed, juice oxidation carefully avoided and the clarified juice cool fermented in stainless steel to retain primary fruit character. Some post-fermentation lees contact was allowed to add some weight to the mid-palate while preserving the fruit characters, and there was no oak contact or malolactic fermentation.
TASTING NOTESClean and fresh nose characterised by citrus peel and grapefruit, lemon blossom, ginger and riverstone. The palate is crisp and lively with plenty of mid-palate weight and good length. It has a lovely oily texture and smooth phenolics giving some structure. I would expect the nose to open out further and the creamy texture to intensify over time.
AWARDS / RATINGS4 stars, Michael Cooper (Buyer's Guide to New Zealand Wines 2007) Silver medal, Bragato Wine Awards, August 2007 Selected to represent Nelson in the "Emergence of Regional Characteristics" Seminar held for UK wine writers, November 2007 |
