2005 Kaimira Estate Unoaked ChardonnayWINE DETAILSThe fruit for this wine was sourced entirely from one vineyard in the Moutere Hills. It was 100% hand picked with an average harvest Brix of 22.4º. Crushing and pressing was reductive, avoiding juice oxidation, and the partially clarified juice cool fermented in stainless steel to retain primary fruit characters. Some post fermentation lees contact and stirring was allowed to give additional weight to the wine, but there was neither oak contact nor malolactic fermentation. The wine was bottled under screwcap in July 2005.
TASTING NOTESThe nose reveals lots of peach and nectarine characters with a hint of citrus underlying. Very clean, fresh and fruity, the wine shows off the purity of chardonnay flavours, with just a hint of complex lees character. The palate is quite steely, softened by the apparent fruit sweetness, and the creamy lees gives weight.
