2008 Brightside Nelson Chardonnay

2008 Brightside Nelson Chardonnay

Winemaking notes

The fruit for this wine was sourced entirely from the estate vineyards in Brightwater, with 40% from the original home block and 60% from 2 blocks at the more recently acquired Livingston Road vineyard. There are 4 clones represented in the blend, giving a broad and more complex array of flavours. The average harvest Brix was 24°.

Crushed and destemmed before gentle pressing yielded clean juice, most of which was then fermented in stainless steel tanks with French oak beans. Around 20% of the blend went through MLF. The wine was then aged sur lies in tank for 9 months prior to final filtration and bottling under screwcap in February 2009.

Tasting notes

This Nelson Chardonnay has lots of toasted citrus, marzipan and vanilla on the nose with an underlying chalky minerality, with subtle mocha and spice notes provided by the oak. It‚s a medium weight Chardonnay which is soft and mouth filling with generous flavours of juicy nectarine and ripe Meyer lemon. Hints of crème caramel linger on the finish of this very versatile food wine.
