2008 Brightside Nelson Riesling

2008 Brightside Riesling

Winemaking notes

The fruit for this wine was sourced entirely from the Livingston Road estate vineyard on the Waimea Plains. It is 100% Riesling, with an average harvest Brix of 22.2.

The grapes were pressed, juice oxidation carefully avoided and the clarified juice cool fermented in stainless steel to retain primary fruit character. Juice obtained at higher pressures was fermented separately. The fermentations were stopped to retain a level of residual sugar to balance the natural acidity.

After ferment the wine was racked off gross lees, then allowed to naturally stabilize in tank for several months prior to blending. It was sterile filtered and bottled in October 2008.

Tasting notes as at October 2008:

Honeysuckle, dried banana, cardamom spice, and citrus aromas waft from the glass. This is lovely juicy Riesling, with a touch of sweetness and nicely balanced acid. The palate is fresh and fruity with punchy citrus like a ripe orange, and lingering mandarin.
