2007 Kaimira Estate Brightwater Syrah/Viognier2007 Kaimira Estate Syrah Winemaking Notes Fruit is sourced from the Livingston Road estate vineyard. Vineyard management was carefully tailored to ensure ripe fruit and phenolics, with very low yields and good fruit exposure from early in the season. A 5% portion of estate grown Viognier was incorporated before maturation to add complexity and a hint of lighter more floral fruit. The block was hand-picked (harvest at 24.5ªBx), chilled and destemmed with minimal crushing and given a cold soak for 4 days prior to inoculation. It was then hand plunged during ferment and once finished, pressed off with a total skin time of 15 days, then settled and racked to barrel. All French oak, barrel maturation was for 12 months, with full MLF occurring naturally in the spring. Prior to bottling in August 2008, the wine underwent a light egg white fining and filtration. Analysis Residual sugar <1g/l Titratable acidity 6.3g/l pH 3.56 Alcohol 13.7% Tasting notes The inky black colour gives an initial suggestion of the concentration present in this wine An intense nose displays classic cool climate Syrah characters of black pepper and meaty savouriness along with blackberry, boysenberry and a hint of liquorice. It‚s very concentrated with a dense, rich and weighty palate, lovely ripe phenolics and the back palate sweetness derived from well ripened fruit. Vanillin and cinnamon oak flavours complement the fruit beautifully in this flavour packed wine. |
